A Name Change on Facebook Didn't Stop a Submission to the SEC

Sam has been fighting for his life for almost 3 years now.  The first year was mostly marked by terrifying discoveries that accompanied his Traumatic Brian Injury—learning in so many ways how his brain no longer functioned the way it used to, realizing that the convenience of reliable short term memory was now a longed-for luxury, finding that communication was no longer within his control and was sometimes impossible, and that in many ways it felt as though his mind and body had been hijacked by a complete stranger who had little regard for who Sam used to be prior to the crash.

The second year was marked not only by continued struggles associated with having TBI, but also by terrifying discoveries of family betrayal that are still unbelievable, as well as the devastating losses caused by those betrayals, the most crushing of which was the loss of his relationship with his son.

The third year was a year of trying to find a way out of the pitch-black abyss created by all the loss and betrayal.  Though still suffering from most of the same TBI symptoms as before, Sam gradually developed ways to manage life despite the unasked for limitations; and day-by-day has healed little-by-little and grown stronger and stronger.

Somewhere along the way it became clear the only way to get to a place of hope would be to reveal the light of truth on what happened to Sam and Brady, which would mean also shedding light on what Sam knew about the old man.  Because the old man had already gone to such lengths to destroy and silence Sam, we knew when we started this blog that we would have to be careful or the old man would find a way to shut us down.  That is why we had the disclaimer in the very first chapter about why we have concealed our identities.

And, as it turns out, we had every reason to be cautious.  Days before Christmas this year we were forced to change our name on our Facebook account for “Trudy-Truth Teller” because an unnamed individual filed a complaint accusing the account of being operated under a fake name.  So, we changed the name on our Facebook account from “Trudy-Truth Teller” to “Jayk Dunn” (pronounced Hyk Dun), a name that could be verified by a state driver’s license, but that still somewhat protects Sam’s identity.

Around the same time, Sam was contacted by a constable’s office in the city where the old man lives.  It turns out the old man also filed a writ to try and collect attorneys’ fees from Sam for the bogus Temporary Restraining Order he had Sam served with last Christmas.  So for the second Christmas in a row, the old man has abused the legal system to harass Sam from 300 miles away.  It also is no coincidence that the particular precinct the old man chose to use to try and collect on the writ is the same precinct where Sam’s mother worked for 30 years before retiring.  Notably, the only person connected with that precinct is Sam’s mother.  The old man lives a good 15 miles away in another precinct and Sam lives a good 300 miles away from both of them.

Also around the same time, after hearing nothing from his mother in months, suddenly Catherine came out of the woodworks with a random text message to Sam telling him about news headlines concerning a dark figure from Sam’s past—the kind of message that may very well have sent Sam down a rabbit trail had he not been gaining strength over the past year.  Aside from the message coming out of the blue, what made it particularly suspicious was that it was in no way accompanied by any attempt to actually discuss the news she was sharing, or make any kind of connection with Sam—it was just a bomb dropping, with suspicious timing.

And so we see that the old man is still doing what he can to silence Sam, even though it’s been more than a year since Sam last was able to speak to his son.  This is not the old man looking out for Brady; it’s the old man looking out for himself.

Meanwhile, Sam has been diligently working on a report to submit to the Securities and Exchange Commission, and while it took longer than expected, the time spent carefully gathering evidence will hopefully have been well worth it.  As an added twist, in the course of additional investigation, Sam discovered a few things about his big brother Randy.  We now understand why Randy suddenly and inexplicably instructed Sam’s mother not to help Sam with Brady when the old man refused to return Brady home—it turns out big brother Randy had already been in cahoots with the old man, running a secret law office out of the old man’s condo and representing the latest version of Cambridge Funding in federal court, and apparently being groomed to run his own pump and dump schemes with his current employer on the east coast.  All of these details and more also made it into Sam’s report to the SEC.

Despite all of the old man’s efforts, however, we filed the report on Friday, December 28, 2018.  Below is a redacted excerpt from the confirmation we received upon filing:

To allow the SEC’s investigation to proceed without compromise, we will need to wait before revealing in full the true identities of the characters in this story, but as soon as we are able to, we will.

In the meantime, we continue to do what we can to help Sam heal and grow stronger.  One of the biggest parts of Sam’s healing is getting back on the bike.  As we write this post, we are just coming off the heels of Sam having completed, for the first time since the crash, the same holiday-time competition he participated in two weeks prior to the crash that we discussed in one of the earlier chapters.  We are proud to say he not only finished the challenge, but he also placed in the top 100 out of all American participants and rode distances farther than he has ridden in a single ride since his crash.

Sam may not be the same person he was before the crash, but he also is not the same person that his family tried to destroy after the crash.  He’s stronger, clearer, and will only continue to heal and overcome.  He says the only chance he ever has of seeing his son again is hope and two wheels, which will have to do for now.
